Rough Spec is a public log of engineering thought experiments in infrastructure, energy, materials, and transport. We take ideas as far as we can before someone has to build the real thing. Sketches, rough prototypes, failed tests, and unsolved problems all get published.
Principles
Solve something real. Every concept starts with a problem worth solving.
Take the details seriously. Physics, cost, maintenance, and deployment all matter.
Build enough to learn. Prototype the important parts, test them, and see what breaks.
Leave it open. Publish the sketches, assumptions, results, and unresolved problems.
